Monte di Pietà

The building Monte di Pietà is a fifteenth-century building in Milan , readjusted in neoclassical style in the '700 by Giuseppe Piermarini (La Scala).

Historically belonged to the district of Porta Nuova, it is located in Via Monte di Pietà n. 5 and was the seat of the pawnshop of Milan founded in 1482 by Ludovico il Moro. A monastery was incorporated into the remodeling of the building by Piermarini in 1782: the convent of Santa Chiara of which remains on the back of the building a lounge with fragments of frescoes .
The facade, rather simple in the style of the first Milanese neoclassicism, has a body projecting at the center decorated by a portal bordered by columns supporting the balcony of the first floor. The main floor is marked by pilasters of Ionic order
